Massage For Cyclists, by Roger Pozeznik, is one of our steady-selling books.  Most of us think of massage as something elite athletes use to stay limber but through this book, the healing power of sports massage can be easily learned by both recreational and competitive cyclists.  It is a perfect companion for athletes who want to eliminate the effects of fatigue by using sports massage.  This book is for every cyclist who wants to understand how to use massage to improve cycling performance.

The book has large type, a lay-flat binding, and over 100 photos and illustrations, so it is is easy to read while practicing the strokes.  All the techniques can be also used by runners and other athletes.

Massage For Cyclists explains three basic types of massage in detail, with separate routines for self and two person massage. They are:

  • Pre-ride massage which stretches and warms the muscles, preparing them for the exercise to come.
  • Post-ride massage which hastens the recovery process by stimulating blood flow. It relaxes the muscles and helps prevent soreness.
  • Maintenance massage which keep muscles in a state of health, flexibility, and vitality.

Also included are techniques for neck, shoulder, and lower back massage, as well as two kinds of stretching exercises.

The book is 81/2 x 11 and has 96 pages.  It sells for $14.95 but is now available for $11.96 plus $4.00 for shipping and handling.  Order now.

Here’s what some reviewers said about Massage For Cyclists:

The late Ed Burke, a noted exercise physiologist, points out the benefits of the book, "Sports massage helps eliminate the effects of fatigue, both physically and psychologically. It restores life to the muscles and reduces the possibility of injury.."

"Massage for Cyclists came at a most opportune time as we have many new riders and racers preparing for the upcoming season here in Southern California. The text is extremely informative and got fabulous reviews from the nearby physical therapy/sports medicine office."

--Daniel Cheng, Proformance

"I know from experience how good daily massage feels during a week-long cycling tour. But I seldom find the time and inspiration to incorporate it into my regular training. This book helps. The large format, oversized type and step-by-step photos make Massage for Cyclists user friendly.

Massage for Cyclists also includes complete pre-and post-ride massage routines for two, perfect for the couple that tandems, stretches, and massages together."

--Doug Barber, Tandem and Family Cycling Magazine
